Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Judah.
1 O God, you are my God, I seek you,
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
3 Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
4 So I will bless you as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands and call on your name.
5 My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast,
and my mouth praises you with joyful lips
6 when I think of you on my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
7 for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.
8 My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.
9 But those who seek to destroy my life
shall go down into the depths of the earth;
10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword,
they shall be prey for jackals.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God;
all who swear by him shall exult,
for the mouths of liars will be stopped.
Reflect
Several years ago, 7UP had an ad campaign and the tag line was, “obey your thirst.” The ad campaign was so popular with the public, that sales of 7UP surged for a while. It wasn’t long until the idea of a cold 7UP on a hot day was replaced by other drinks once the ad campaign came to an end.
We live in a disposable society where everything is temporary. Whether it’s the latest electronic gadget, a trendy accessory, or a fashion trend, eventually what is popular will be out of date and no longer desirable. In the Psalm, it states, “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you.” This attitude of desire and devotion to God is so strong that it lasts longer than a season. I have seen people rush out of church on a Sunday because their team had an early game and they had to get home so they wouldn’t miss a single play. We put our hope in things that will fade away, while God is always there. God is always faithful and God never lets us down. God looked through time and space and saw us in our worst and sent Jesus to give us victory over sin and death through his sacrifice. All that God asks in return is for our love and devotion.
As you start your day, reflect on your life and ask yourself, “What am I thirsting for?” Put your trust in God and then, obey your thirst.
Pray
God, I have tasted of your goodness. I want more. Never let my thirst for you be quenched. Amen
