Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.
Read
4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
7 Look! He is coming with the clouds;
every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him;
and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.
So it is to be. Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
Reflect
You may not know it, but today is the last Sunday of the Christian calendar. Every year we begin with the birth of Jesus at Advent. Then we follow Christ through the wilderness and the Cross during Lent. During Easter, we celebrate the resurrection. We remember the birthday of the Church at Pentecost. Then we follow the growth and establishment of the church throughout ordinary time. Finally we come to Christ the King Sunday.
Christ the King Sunday reminds us that Christ is the true king of the world. There is no human power or authority greater than Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that on the Day of Judgment, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
This Sunday reminds us that even though we are on this earth, this earth is not our home. Our citizenship is in heaven. Our lives here are not mundane, because we are a kingdom of priests serving God today, even on this earth. Everything we do has eternal significance. We do not have to live like others who do not understand their purpose for living, who feel like life has no meaning. We are to enjoy God and glorify Him forever.
Pray
God, help me to see that everything I do here on this earth serves a greater purpose. Thank you for my life and how You have worked in it. Amen
