1 Happy are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord.
2 Happy are those who keep his decrees,
who seek him with their whole heart,
3 who also do no wrong,
but walk in his ways.
4 You have commanded your precepts
to be kept diligently.
5 O that my ways may be steadfast
in keeping your statutes!
6 Then I shall not be put to shame,
having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
7 I will praise you with an upright heart,
when I learn your righteous ordinances.
8 I will observe your statutes;
do not utterly forsake me.
Reflect
Oh, how wonderful and heartening it is to know that we serve a magnificent God! Our path to serving God should never be as difficult as many of us have made it. So many times we are told in the Scripture that we are blessed. So often we are reminded that God keeps us in total and perfect care. So why do we make it so hard?
Just like the perfect child who is blameless in their father’s sight, so are we in God’s sight when we follow the precepts and commands that are set forth for us. So much more are we blessed and blameless if we but seek God’s way with all our hearts. We are not just promised blessings but are rewarded with blessings from God’s endless storehouse.
When we seek God’s ways and obey God’s commands we will not so easily fail and fall short. When we know that God’s precepts and commands are for our betterment, not to keep us under the Divine “thumb” nor force us to love our Lord – then, and only then do we understand the greatness of our inheritance.
I challenge you today to approach this day, and every day after, with the assurance that God will lead you in the proper way. I encourage you to praise God in all things, both great and small, and accept that the Father’s love is boundless and unconditional. May we always follow God’s way with a pure heart and a mind open to understanding.
Pray
Dear God, help us not to lean on our own understanding, but in all of our ways let us acknowledge You and thereby follow the straight path. Amen.
