Hebrews 6:13-20
13 When God made a promise to Abraham, because he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham,[a] having patiently endured, obtained the promise. 16 Human beings, of course, swear by someone greater than themselves, and an oath given as confirmation puts an end to all dispute. 17 In the same way, when God desired to show even more clearly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it by an oath, 18 so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God would prove false, we who have taken refuge might be strongly encouraged to seize the hope set before us. 19 We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus, a forerunner on our behalf, has entered, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
Reflect
I blog about children’s books. For the year 2021 I had decided that nine of my monthly blogs would focus on the fruits of the spirit. After introducing my resolution and overall theme in January, blogging about love in February was a piece of cake. I had no trouble finding joy in March—especially since the world felt the year-long pandemic had done its due.
By April, however, I was beginning to worry and wonder if I would find enough features for my fruits. I need not have worried because God had given me the inspiration, and God was giving me the goods. I only needed then and now to wait patiently to receive what He has promised.
Every month the children’s books I have featured have crossed my path in ways that only God could have orchestrated. Through social media posts, emails, bookstore displays, writing conferences, word of mouth—God has given me the exact ideas I have needed.
I can take refuge and be strongly encouraged as I seize the hope He will continue to supply all my needs.
As we reflect upon God’s promise to Abraham, we can rejoice in the same hope of his promises to us.
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for supplying all our needs. Help us to seize the hope you have set before us and to use it for your glory. In Christ’s name, Amen.
