Pay attention to the tension in your body. Let go of it and any expectations to do anything other than God’s will today. Prepare yourself to hear God’s word.
Read
12 Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.
14 Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Reflect
When you think about the Bible, what comes to mind? Is it a history book? Self-help book? Book of encouragement? Book of instructions? This Bible is some of all of these things and so much more. How often though do we think about the Bible as a weapon? The first part of today’s scripture describes God’s word as being sharper than any two-edged sword. As we read the Bible, God’s word is so powerful that it can cut right through to our inner soul to remind us when we aren’t living the way He wants us to. The second part of this lesson reminds us that we have a high priest, in Jesus Christ, whom we can pray for His forgiveness, mercy and grace. Because Jesus lived on earth and was tempted as well, He can sympathize with our weaknesses and is understanding of our shortcomings. We can approach Him in prayer with confidence then instead of fear. Share your troubles with Him and seek His help in your time of need. The two greatest things we can do on a daily basis then is to read God’s word and turn our concerns over to Him in prayer.
Pray
Dear Lord, I’m thankful that you breathed on your word so that it’s as alive today and it was the day it was written. Your word is powerful and is not to be taken lightly. May we always have confidence and boldness as we come to you in prayer. We seek your mercy, grace, and forgiveness upon our life for those times we fail you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Go with God!
