Peter referred to Paul’s writing, saying some of it was hard to understand.  Boy, he was not kidding! That is true for other parts of Scripture, as well.  Sometimes, as we study the Bible, lessons are so obvious.  Other times, we scratch our heads and wonder if we are even reading English.  Maybe we reach for a concordance or another translation.  Google comes in handy.  Often, though, I just move on to the next section of Scripture because I don’t have the time, energy, or–let’s face it–interest to really study. 

Ignorance of Scripture, though, leads to instability, according to Peter.  I am reminded of Jesus’ parable of the wise man building his house upon the rock, while the fool built on sand.  That would definitely be unstable.  As the storms and winds strike the house, it cannot stand.  Even the ordinary day-in-day-out shifting caused by regular life would eventually undermine and destroy a house built on so unstable a foundation.  Is it really so hard to give a few more minutes to understanding, when my foundation is at stake?
