Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.

Psalm 73:21-28
New Revised Standard Version
21 When my soul was embittered,
when I was pricked in heart,
22 I was stupid and ignorant;
I was like a brute beast toward you.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me with honor.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 Indeed, those who are far from you will perish;
you put an end to those who are false to you.
28 But for me it is good to be near God;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
to tell of all your works.
Reflect
Do you remember what it was like when you were upset or scared as a child? Did you have someplace you would like to go and hide? Maybe it was a tree, or under the bed, or in a closet. Just going somewhere to get away from whatever was giving you trouble. A place of solitude where you could escape from the world.
I would escape to the magnolia tree in the front yard. I could climb all the way to the top, and see the city unfold all around me. On more than one occasion, I would be called gently from the base of the tree. I always found it very comforting to be called by a voice I recognized. A voice I trusted. I knew no harm would come to me.
Even as an adult, we still need a place to escape. A place to hide. I’m climbing fewer trees these days, but I still hide. God calls us. Even when we are feeling embittered. Even when we act like beasts towards God, God still calls. Life is often difficult. Our refuge can always be wrapped in God’s embrace. We can rest there for as long as we like. And when we have had our rest, God extends a hand to guide us on our way.
Pray
Creator God, we are grateful for our refuge in you. You protect us when we are vulnerable and you guide us when we are well. God we ask that we would never be afraid while in your arms. Amen.
Go with God!
