As you quiet yourself for this brief time, be willing to be open to God, however that may take place.

Proverbs 8:32-9:6
New Revised Standard Version
32 “And now, my children, listen to me:
happy are those who keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction and be wise,
and do not neglect it.
34 Happy is the one who listens to me,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting beside my doors.
35 For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord;
36 but those who miss me injure themselves;
all who hate me love death.”
9 Wisdom has built her house,
she has hewn her seven pillars.
2 She has slaughtered her animals, she has mixed her wine,
she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her servant-girls, she calls
from the highest places in the town,
4 “You that are simple, turn in here!”
To those without sense she says,
5 “Come, eat of my bread
and drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Lay aside immaturity, and live,
and walk in the way of insight.”
Reflect
As a child, did your parents ever tell you, “You should have listened to me.”? Of course, when you heard those words you had obviously done something you were instructed by your parents not to do. They, out of love, were trying to tell you that there are consequences for your actions.
I remember a time when I was young. An older couple in our block had a granddaughter who was the same age as me. She lived in California and would come to Kentucky to visit her grandparents in the summer. We would always play together. On one particular day, I had been instructed on when to return home. Well, I was so caught up in playing and did not listen to my mother calling from three yards away for me to come home. When I finally decided to go home, my mother had locked the exterior glass and screen door. I knocked on the door. I could see my mother working in the kitchen, but she ignored me. I knocked harder and louder. When I knocked the last time, my hand missed the metal frame of the door and went through the glass. That definitely grabbed my mother’s attention! Once she attended to me and saw that I was fine, I received one of the few spankings I ever remember receiving. Her words to me were, “You should have listened to me, and this would not have happened”.
In our Scripture today, it tells us to listen to wisdom and keep its ways. Keep watch for wisdom. “…those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord”. (v. 35) How awesome is that?! Wisdom has built her house and prepared a meal. Chapter 9, Verse 6 tells us to “Leave your simple ways and live; walk in the way of insight.”
Pray
Loving God, help us to listen to your wisdom and act accordingly in our lives. Amen.
