I had a rough day today.  Work felt like…work.  I was disagreeable with my family.  I didn’t want to be comforted.  I just wanted to be grumpy. 

As I bent my fingers over the keyboard and opened my Bible to read the selected Bible passages to write today’s devotion, I found myself pausing.  Psalm 11 starts with “In the Lord I take refuge.”

But was I?  Am I?  If I was truly taking refuge in the Lord, burnt breakfast toast wouldn’t ruin my day.  If I let God protect me from the storms, a heated email from a coworker wouldn’t put me on edge for the rest of the day.  If I truly sought refuge in the Lord, I would give in the protective security that only can provide. 

As I continue to a little shamefully write this devotion, I feel the cloud I’ve lived under today shift a bit.  I can still have off days – but if I lean into the refuge of the Lord, those moments will be short-lived and not take residence in my heart.
