26 I write these things to you concerning those who would deceive you. 27 As for you, the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and so you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, abide in him.
28 And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he is revealed we may have confidence and not be put to shame before him at his coming.
Reflect
One of the reasons John wrote this letter is so that we wouldn’t be deceived. One of the primary problems that I believe we have as the Church is that we don’t really know what we believe or why we believe. Many well-meaning Christians think that the “be all, end all” of the Christian life is just being a nice person and use that whole “preach the Gospel and if necessary use words” rhetoric. However, a careful reading of Scripture (namely the letters of John and Peter) will tell us that we must be able to articulately confess what we believe (1 Peter 3:15) AND we should live our lives consistent with that confession. (1 John 1:5-2:2)
Pray
Almighty and Everlasting God, equip us with Your word to face the challenges of the world today and allow us to find our rest in You. In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Go with God!
