Have you ever been in a workplace, a club, or even your church where someone who had authority was quick to let everyone know it! That’s not a very nice place to be in. It certainly makes for difficult working situations, and even harder in the church.

Jesus reminded his disciples in our scripture today that His kingdom is the complete opposite of what they think it should and most certainly what was modeled. Servant leadership is the key. The first being last.

This is the opposite of our humanness. You only need to turn on the TV, watch a news channel, or pick up a magazine to see what our human behavior is. We want to be large and in charge and to let the whole world know that’s who we are.

Jesus says even the Son of Man came to be a servant to all. Let’s be honest, this is hard! This is a difficult thing for us to emulate and to strive towards. The world pulls us in the wrong direction. Leading from the position of a servant means that through our actions, and our interactions we get the opportunity….catch that word, we get the opportunity to display the love of Christ with all.
