Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.
Read
5 Thus says God, the Lord,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people upon it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
6 I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness,
I have taken you by the hand and kept you;
I have given you as a covenant to the people,
a light to the nations,
7 to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
8 I am the Lord, that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to idols.
9 See, the former things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth,
I tell you of them.
Reflect
Isaiah is relaying a message from God to His covenant people in today’s reading. Isaiah is like hey ya’ll you know this God, this God that created all things. The one that created heaven and earth, and everything that breathes. Yeah, this God has a message for you!
Isaiah reminded Israel that God was walking with them. That they were to be the light to the Gentiles, meaning the rest of the world. They were to share this light through their covenant with God so that the blind would see and the captives would be set free. What a beautiful and amazing message to receive from God.
We received the same message from Jesus. He started with His disciples and told them they would be messengers beginning in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and then to the ends of the world. We are still working out that mission. We who believe in Jesus Christ have a responsibility, just like the Israelites to be the light of the world.
Jesus also came to give sight to the blind and to set the captives free. How amazing is it that the same message given to Israel is the same task that we have? God tells us to be the light of the world, to shine it everywhere we go. So, go and shine!
Pray
God of love and light, help us today as we wander on our path to shine your light. Remembering that you are walking with us, that we are never alone. Sometimes the path grows dark, but the light is always there. Help us today to burn brighter as we spread the good news about your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Go with God!
