9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
Reflect
On one hand, it is very strange that none of the disciples could quickly understand the empty tomb. Jesus told them the plan, over and over and over. Yet when things went exactly according to plan, they were confused and frightened. On the other hand, I can’t blame them, it is too good to be true.
I consider myself a faithful Christian, not perfect by any means, but faithful. Yet even today, I ask myself, is it true? Does God count me as one of His own children? One of the greatest expressions of this is from Charles Wesley’s great hymn, “And Can it Be?” These lyrics remind me that Christ’s resurrection overcomes my doubts and fears. Yes, I am a child of God.
And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior’s blood
Died He for me, who caused His pain
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Pray
O Lord, we believe, help us in our unbelief. Amen
Go with God!
