3 Now by this we may be sure that we know him, if we obey his commandments. 4 Whoever says, “I have come to know him,” but does not obey his commandments, is a liar, and in such a person the truth does not exist; 5 but whoever obeys his word, truly in this person the love of God has reached perfection. By this we may be sure that we are in him: 6 whoever says, “I abide in him,” ought to walk just as he walked.
7 Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word that you have heard. 8 Yet I am writing you a new commandment that is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. 9 Whoever says, “I am in the light,” while hating a brother or sister, is still in the darkness. 10 Whoever loves a brother or sister lives in the light, and in such a person there is no cause for stumbling. 11 But whoever hates another believer is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know the way to go, because the darkness has brought on blindness.
Reflect
Are you perfect, do you do everything correctly, are you a sinless person? If you are reading this today I can tell you without a doubt that the answer to these three questions is all the same. Are you perfect? No, because no one currently walking the earth is perfect. Do you do everything correctly? No, because no matter how many things we perfect in life there is something that we can always improve on. Finally, are you a sinless person? No, because if the truth be told we all sin daily one way or another.
You see humankind may not be perfect, however, we are currently a work in progress. Perfection takes a while to perfect, however, we can work towards it every day. All we have to do is study the word of God. Pray for insight as we read and study the word of God. And finally put into action the things that we read and study about from the word of God.
When we read the word of God we will learn what things please God, and what things displease God. We are also reminded throughout the word of God that Jesus Christ died for our sins. So if we repent with a pure heart out sins are forgiven. And we are given another chance of spending eternity in heaven.
Pray
Dear God, thank you for your holy word today. Thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Allow us to grow closer to you daily and never forget that you love us unconditionally. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Amen!
Go with God!
