Psalm 35:1-10
Reflect
When I first read these verses I was disturbed by what I understood the psalmist to be asking God. However as I examined these verses more closely I realized that sound very similar to a lament that I have perhaps prayed myself.
The psalmist prays for deliverance from the evil that has been done against him but the psalmist also prays to God as an act of faith. The psalmist prays and is confident that God knows the whole story. The psalmist really prays what we all long for us in this world, to know that evil does not have the last word.
The psalmist gives not only his lament to God but also he gives the God right to judge the originators of this situation created against him.
The psalmist leaves everything in God’s hands, even his feelings of hatred and aggression. God responds to the psalmist’s lament and then the psalmist offer God praise for deliverance.
We would be wise to follow the example of the Psalmist. Know that God always hears our cries and God will respond, so in the meantime we wait knowing God has got this.
Pray
God, we bow in Your presence with confidence in our hearts that You hear prayers, that Your ear is also inclined to us, and that in due time You will grant us Thy peace. Amen
