Covid-19 has been a disrupter in our lives. Even if we have avoided the disease itself, it has still wreaked havoc in the things we do. I admit, I am looking forward to going places and not needing a mask and not worrying if I touched something or got too close to someone or heaven forbid I’m one of those asymptomatic people who are spreading without knowing. I don’t know how things will look the week after Christmas, I am writing this now knowing that Thanksgiving will be spent with just me and my wife. All our normal Thanksgiving routines have been canceled, both family and church family. Don’t misunderstand we are healthy, but some of our family are coming out of quarantine and others are worried and scared. We miss being together, being family.

In this text from Matthew Jesus redefines family. Most of us have come to see our church as a family. That’s how we are supposed to feel about church. What a blessing it is when we are family. I have seen where almost 25% of people who were attending church before Covid are no longer doing so. They have dropped out and out of the habit of attending. I don’t think we would just let our blood relatives just drop out. Let’s not let our church family either. Everybody needs family, especially at Christmas.
