Psalm 105
Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Reflect
“Give thanks unto the Lord, Call upon His name. Make known His deeds unto the people. Glory ye, in His holy name, let the hearts of them rejoice that seek the Lord.”
It was the fall of 1983. I had transferred to a college that felt like it was a long way from home. I was failing college. Couldn’t focus. Was getting bad grades. Missed my fiancée. And I had just “de-pledged” a music fraternity, based on “spiritual reasons.” It was dark when left that fateful de-pledging hedging. I went to the Music Building – sanctuary for many a music major. I felt bewildered and confused, even sick inside, wondering if I had made the right decision. It was one of the first BIG, stand-up spiritual decisions I had ever made (yes, in my early 20’s). I heard a group rehearsing in the auditorium and walked in the back door of the stage, almost tripping on the back row of this amazing group of musicians called Truth. They were about to do a soundcheck for their concert. I had not known they were coming – didn’t know who they were. They invited me to sit down front. At the downbeat, I heard a group and a message that flooded me with hope, joy, peace. The song they were singing was, “Sing unto Him.” It was a “scripture song” taken directly from Psalm 105:1-3. My worry and dread instantly blew away with the trumpets and was beat down with the drums. I realized that no matter whether I had made the right decision, I had made a decision. And God would honor my commitment.
Pray
God, thank you that Your Holy Spirit always shows up at the right time. I just pray, God, that I am able to see with Spirit eyes the path you have for me, whether it is through the next block, or across the world. Praise Your holy name! Amen.
Go with God!
