The words of an old minister, “God gave us the rainbow sign, no more water, the fire next time” As 2020 mercifully comes to an end, it is appropriate to look back and think what did I accomplish that will matter. Will it matter next week or next month or next year. Will it matter a hundred years from now? Wow! The test of time. Hopefully, we all can think back and find things that will matter that we accomplished this year, but wow that hundred-year test. That really puts things in perspective, doesn’t it? 

A lot of things happened in 2020. We are navigating a pandemic, we have had a presidential election, we have seen riots in our streets and we probably have used social media in one way or another to put our 2 cents worth in. Will any of these things make a difference? Yes, they will, for good or ill. Time will tell. That’s what matters the judgment of time. People are arguing, “you want to be on the right side of history” but how do we know how the future will judge us. We don’t but we do know the one who will judge all things. Paul warned us in 1 Corinthians not to build with hay and stubble because it will be consumed in the fires of judgment. Build instead with those things that will survive the fire. Build on the foundation of Jesus Christ.

I don’t know if you ever heard of a man named Mordecai Ham, I don’t know much about him myself, except he preached a revival in North Carolina in the 1930s and a young man came to faith in Christ, that young man’s name was Billy Graham. Let’s work to build the kingdom in 2021.
