As a child, Christmas seemed as though it would never come. As an adult, I have been surprised at how quickly it comes. It seems as though as soon as we get all the decorations put up, it is time to pull them back out. Maybe it’s just perspective, as a child, I was getting stuff, cool stuff. I remember, Billy Blastoff, he came with all these cool accessories, like a space rover, you put batteries in his jet pack, and then it would hook up and power all those cool accessories. Every time I see Buzz Lightyear I think of Billy Blastoff. Man, that was a cool Christmas. Hot Wheels, oh man how cool was that! Putting that track together, watching those cars do those loop to loops. No wonder it took Christmas forever to get here. I think I would still like to play with those toys, but don’t tell my wife. Never mind, she already knows. 

The cry of the Old Testament psalmist was always “How long, how long oh, Lord” and the Prophet Isaiah who cried “Oh that you would tear open the heavens and come down”. We get an idea of the longing and the waiting. Paul tells us it was in the fullness of time. We sometimes get the idea that God is just going to bust in at the last minute like some Hollywood script and save us from whatever peril we are in. God’s timing may not be ideal for us, but it is perfect. And in his perfect timing, He has made us his children. Something far greater than my 10-year-old self could ever imagine.
