26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29 But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. 30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. 36 And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.
Reflect
Tonight, I am sitting here trying to write my last devotion, while also trying to organize the making of Christmas Food Boxes to help families in our area. A member of our church just decided to purchase 30 hams, and we decided that we needed to put some food with it. We are also trying to provide a little Christmas for one family with five kids. This is a family that one of our members who is a teacher found out about today. This all kind of came up suddenly, which is how God sometimes works. The need just arises, and God basically asks us all, can we get it done, can we take care of it? To my amazement, the answer from my deacons and session is always, “Let’s do it.” There is just a blind trust and faith that if God asks us to do something, we can do it. That is why I am sitting here looking at this one statement by Mary, “I am the Lord’s servant.” All I can say as I read that statement right now is, “Amen.” Everyone have a Merry and Blessed Christmas and let us all be ready to reply with faith when God calls, “I am your servant Lord. May your word to me be fulfilled.”
Pray
God, help us to see, help us to hear, help us to have the faith to say yes when you call us to serve. Help us to be your disciples, your servants. Thank you, God that we have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of those that have had the faith to trust you and follow you. Help us to be like Mary, and say, “I am the Lord’s servant.” Amen.
Go with God!
