Read
46 While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers were standing outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” 48 But to the one who had told him this, Jesus replied, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 And pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Reflect
In this text today we notice that Jesus Christ is speaking to a crowd. It could be very well true that his disciples could have been within the crowd. Jesus could have been speaking to his disciples about something of importance. We can assume this because, when someone whose name is not spoken of tells him that his mother and brothers were outside, he did not leave from speaking with we the crowd. He points out that anyone who does the will of his Father in heaven are his brother sister and mother. (reference Matthew 12:47-50)
What can we learn from today’s text? That those who strive to do the will of God are looked upon by Jesus Christ as family. Being part of Jesus Christ’s family means that he wants to see us make it to heaven one day. With that being said Jesus Christ will take time to teach us the way to make it to heaven. Not only this but he will also teach us how to make it through the trials and tribulations of this thing called life here on earth. All we have to do as children of God is take time out of our day, to spend time with Jesus. So I ask you this today, Do you have time to sit and listen to the teachings of Jesus Christ?
Pray
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your word today. We pray that we can take time out of our day to spend time with Jesus Christ, so we may grow closer to you. Thank you for sending your one and only son to the earth so that we may have a chance of experiencing heaven one day. In Jesus Christ the Lord we pray Amen.
Go with God!
