Be still and rest in the Lord.

1 Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of scoffers;
2 but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
3 They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Reflect
I briefly mentioned that I struggle choosing snacks in gas stations. It’s not so much of me not knowing what I want as it is the battle of what I want versus what I need. I know I need that large bottle of water, but did you see that Mountain Dew? I know I need to choose that bag of dried fruits, but did you see that large bag of chips? It is a constant battle of what I need versus what I want. The same scenario is evident here in Psalm 1 and also throughout the entire Bible. Advice of the wicked or delight in the law of the Lord? Take the path of sinners or meditate on God’s Word? Life is full of these choices, and they may not all be as easy as picking a snack at the gas station. Let’s come to the point where we make our choices based on what we want versus what we need with God as our filter.
Pray
Father, help us make all of lives choices with you as our filter. Although we have many wants, let our main want be to please you and when we do that, we know we will have all that we need. Be with us through our day as we face these choices, even in gas stations because we know we need you there as well. In your holy name we pray, amen.
Go with God!
