Matthew 8:14-17
Jesus Heals Many
14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.(B) 17 This was to fulfill(C) what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
“He took up our infirmities
and bore our diseases.”
Reflect
“It’s all in a day’s work.” I’ve heard that all my life. It possibly started as a nautical term. Sailors had to use the sun and moon to navigate in order to keep the ship on course during the course of 24 hours, from noon to noon. It was a difficult task, but was just a normal part of the sailor’s routine. Maybe that’s why some people use it when doing something unpleasant. Jesus did everything He did out of compassion and love. Some of the things Christ did were scary, some were unpleasant. But Jesus did them anyway, and usually did not complain about what He did. That is what Jesus did; that is who Jesus was – and is. Isaiah said it best and said it before Christ came along: “He took on himself the sicknesses that should have been ours.” (NIrV) Jesus is still doing that – still healing us, still saving us, still hanging out with us. And He wants to hang out with you, heal you, restore you, use you, if you let Him. And He has all the time in the world, when He is with you. After all, for Jesus, “It’s all in a day’s work.”
Pray
Thank You Jesus. Thank You for making time for me. Thank You for spending all Your days with me, no matter what kind of days I am having. Speak to the one who needs to know this, who needs Your kind of hope and peace in their lives. Draw them to You. Amen
