Psalm 26
Plea for Justice and Declaration of Righteousness
Of David.
1 Vindicate me, O Lord,
for I have walked in my integrity,
and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.
2 Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
test my heart and mind.
3 For your steadfast love is before my eyes,
and I walk in faithfulness to you.[a]
4 I do not sit with the worthless,
nor do I consort with hypocrites;
5 I hate the company of evildoers,
and will not sit with the wicked.
6 I wash my hands in innocence,
and go around your altar, O Lord,
7 singing aloud a song of thanksgiving,
and telling all your wondrous deeds.
8 O Lord, I love the house in which you dwell,
and the place where your glory abides.

THE HOUSE OF THE LORD
“O Lord, I love the house in which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides.”
“I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the” gathering place of God’s people. Where Christians are gathered to worship is the “house of the Lord.” Most churches buildings are closed to corporate worship. Large gatherings are not encouraged even where churches are open. But we as Christians know that the church is not the building, the church is the people. Remember the VBS song, “I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together. All of God’s children, all around the world, we are the church together.” At this time we are called on to live out this truth in a very real way.
It has always been my joy to lift my voice with the congregation in hymns and praise of God’s blessing and grace and then to join in corporate prayer naming the eternal attributes of our mighty God. Remembering God’s saving love and care. In God’s ‘house’ I’ve experienced the fellowship of other believers surrounding me with welcoming arms, warm smiles, cheerful greetings and promises of shared meals. In this ‘house’ I also received instruction in the word of God, the story of God’s people through the ages and the way to live in the outside world day to day.
How rich is the shared life of the Christian community! What a blessing to “go into the house of the Lord.”
Pray
Lord, now that our houses of worship are dark because of this pandemic, we are worshiping online. Make this new mode of worship very meaningful to us. Grant us a new understanding of what worship truly is and how to worship as you would have us worship. Unburden our hearts, free our spirits, and open our minds to your love as never before. Amen.
Go with God!
