Isaiah 56:1-5
56 Thus says the Lord:
Maintain justice, and do what is right,
for soon my salvation will come,
and my deliverance be revealed.
2 Happy is the mortal who does this,
the one who holds it fast,
who keeps the sabbath, not profaning it,
and refrains from doing any evil.
3 Do not let the foreigner joined to the Lord say,
“The Lord will surely separate me from his people”;
and do not let the eunuch say,
“I am just a dry tree.”
4 For thus says the Lord:
To the eunuchs who keep my sabbaths,
who choose the things that please me
and hold fast my covenant,
5 I will give, in my house and within my walls,
a monument and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that shall not be cut off.
Reflect
Parents tell their children to “Do what is right” because they want their children to be respected by others. The children please their parents when that happens. Do you remember when your parents found out you misbehaved and how you felt when they confronted you about the bad behavior? If you are like the rest of us, you were upset, afraid of the consequences, and sorry for hurting, and maybe embarrassing your parents. In a time when it was not the normal thing for women to work outside of the home, my mother had to do just that. We moved in with her parents. It was wartime. Her factory job was manufacturing uniforms and blankets for the military. It required 10-12 hour days and many times six days a week. Some weeks we were only able to spend time together on Sunday. For all practical purposes my grandparents became the parental figures in my life. I cannot count the times I heard them say “Remember who you are and that whatever you do and say reflects on your family.” That became a daily reminder as I entered my teen years and not always within their sight. My point is – Remember who you are (part of God’s family) and whom you represent out in the world (God.)
Pray
Heavenly Father, When we become a member of your family, we become your child. We represent you in this world. That is a heritage that we do not deserve, but you graciously bless us with. Please guide us in the direction you want us to follow in order to reflect the family love to the world.
