Psalm 145:8-14 (NRSV)
The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The LORD is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.
All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD,
and all your faithful shall bless you.
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom,
and tell of your power,
to make known to all people your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
The LORD is faithful in all his words,
and gracious in all his deeds.
The LORD upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.
Reflect
I have a two-year-old grandson, whom I love with my whole heart. However, there are times when he tries my patience and gets on my last nerve. He is into everything, will not listen, hurts his baby sister, etc. Sometimes, despite my best intentions and efforts, my anger and frustration show.
How like a two-year-old we must be to God! We do things we know we shouldn’t, hurt those we are supposed to love, and refuse to follow God’s teachings. Yet, the psalmist tells us that God is slow to anger and has compassion over all creation. Additionally, God is faithful even when we are not and supports us when we fall. What an awesome God we have!
Pray
God, we know that we are not deserving of your love for us, but we are so grateful you love us anyway. Help us when we fall and forgive us when we let you down. Amen.
Go with God!
