Psalm 116:12-19 (NRSV)
What shall I return to the Lord
for all his bounty to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful ones.
O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving girl.
You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
Reflect
The writer for this Psalm is praising and thanking God for freeing him from his chains. Do you have any chains binding you, anything that has you bound up and keeps you from enjoying life? It may be something someone said to you or did to you recently or even years ago. I know from experience that we can become bound in our emotions; call it depression or just overwhelmed in life. The good news is – you don’t have to live life like that. Begin today, asking God to reveal and break the chains that have you bound and that are keeping you from having a joyful life. You’d be surprised what God will do in your situation and circumstances. Never give up on having “a chains free life”. It’s available to all of us because of Jesus.
Pray
Dear God, thank you for all the blessings that you have given us. We pray that anyone reading this today, will know that you are a chain breaker and we don’t have to carry these chains anymore if we will only ask for your help. We are sorry we make life so difficult when you have plans for a blessed life for us. As always, we thank you for your unconditional love. In Jesus Name, Amen.
