Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.

Genesis 21:1-7
Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
Reflect
One summer I taught our Children’s Choir the musical, “I Am A Promise.” I can still hear the children singing my favorite song from the musical, “I am a promise, I am a possibility, I am a promise with a capital “P”, I am a great big bundle of potentiality, and I am learin’ to hear God’s voice, and I am tryin’ to make the right choice, I am a promise to be anything God wants me to be. I can anywhere that He wants me to go, I can be anything that He wants me to be, I can climb the high mountains, I can cross the wide sea. I’m a great big promise you see!”
Sarah and Abraham both had trouble believing a promise that God made to them. In fact they both laughed when God told them they were going to have a child at their age. Yet, verse 7b shares with us “and the Lord did for Sarah as he had promised.” Sarah gave birth to a son and named him Isaac. I am sure Isaac brought much joy and laughter to his parents.
Lewis Smedes was right when he wrote “our God is a promise-making and a promise-keeping God.” We, like Abraham and Sarah, can live life with the confidence and assurance that a promise made by God, is a promise kept.
Pray
O God, we give You thanks for every promise that is found in Your Word and for Your faithfulness in keeping everyone. Amen
