Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.

1 Peter 2:13-17 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
For the Lord’s sake accept the authority of every human institution, whether of the emperor as supreme, or of governors, as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of the foolish. As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil. Honor everyone. Love the family of believers. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
Reflect
As we approach the time for elections of government officials, we are bombarded with accusations, statements and innuendos that disturb us. We ask ourselves who is telling the truth and who should we vote for. Many have a distinct dislike for the ones who are already in office. This scripture tells us that we should be obedient and submit to the authority of the king. The keyword is submitting which is an element of respect.
As Christians, we are to be peacemakers and loving, being examples of Christ regardless of whom we meet. We are to be respectful to those who have authority over us. We are to be respectful to those who may not deserve respect. There are some who can get under our skin frustrating or angering us. It takes a lot of spiritual discipline to be loving and respectful to those individuals. Seeing them as Christ does, and treating them as Christ would have us do. The main purpose of a Christian is to allow the world to see Christ in us and to lead others to Christ. We are to fulfill the commission in Matthew 28, so that all would receive the gift of salvation.
Pray
Holy Father forgive me when I lose my focus and fail to serve you in all aspects of life. Help me to be disciplined and respectful in times of frustration. Help me to have Christ shine through me so that others will be drawn to you. Amen.
