Colossians 3:12-17 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Reflect
When I was a child I didn’t grow up in a Christian home, but my great grandmother would take me to church on the weekends I spent at her house. (which was often) She was the first person in my life that taught me how to be a Christian. She would tell me constantly when I was doing anything “do it like it’s for God himself”. She would also tell me how to check myself, or my Christ-ometer if you will. She said to keep in mind if I was ever put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict me? I remember asking my grandmother what was the evidence that I was a Christian, and she would read me today’s scripture. We as Christians need to always remember to demonstrate kindness, compassion, humility, meekness, patience, and most of all through a thankful and praiseful heart.
Pray
Lord help us to not lean on our own understanding of the world around us, but to be guided by the virtues exhibited to us by Christ Jesus. Help us to acknowledge you in all that I do, all that I say, all my thought, and in all my words. In Jesus’ beautiful name we pray… Amen
