Colossians 3:5-11 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!
Reflect
Today scripture speaks of the old ways that we can strip away, and the new self that we can become through the gift of the Easter victory. Our old fleshly way leads us to pain, anguish, failed relationships, and eventually, sin brings us to death. Today is the day after Easter, but today and every day forward we have the gift of a self-renewal through the spirit of Christ. We can put on a new way, a new love, a new perspective, and become one in God’s army. The greatest thing about the Easter victory is that it is open to us all, there is no sin or no past to big for the life-saving blood of the Lamb.
Pray
Today we pray that you rest upon us in spirit and in mind, that we choose every day to dress in your ways and in your love. That we overcome the fleshly desires of this world, and that we may also come across others in need of your love. Amen
Go with God!
