1 Corinthians 11:23-26 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Reflect
Have you ever had to prepare for a loved one’s or friend’s death? It was probably one of the hardest things you have done in your lifetime. Maybe you have not had to experience this type of preparation in life. So, I ask you if you knew that you would die soon how would you prepare those around you for your death.
Today’s passage focuses on the upcoming death of Jesus Christ. Jesus is having a feast with his followers one more time before he will die upon the cross. At the feast between Jesus and the disciples, they share in the breaking of the bread, which they are to continue to do after Jesus’ passing in remembrance of him.
When we take part in the Lord’s supper let us not forget to reflect on the sacrifices that Jesus Christ did for us, so that we could have a chance of eternal life. Remember that Jesus Christ took a whipping, lost skin and bleed for every single sin that you and I could ever commit. It is because of Jesus’ selfless actions that we have a chance of getting into heaven. All we have to do is accept him, believe in our heart that Jesus died for our sins and confess with our mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we shall spend eternity in heaven.
Pray
Dear God thank you for your allowing your son Jesus Christ to die for our sins upon the cross. Let us never forget his actions of love for us. Father grant us the strength to tell those around us about this act of love so that those who do not believe may begin to believe and be saved. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord Amen.
Go with God!
