Psalm 70 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
To the leader. Of David, for the memorial offering.
Be pleased, O God, to deliver me.
O Lord, make haste to help me!
Let those be put to shame and confusion
who seek my life.
Let those be turned back and brought to dishonor
who desire to hurt me.
Let those who say, “Aha, Aha!”
turn back because of their shame.
Let all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you.
Let those who love your salvation
say evermore, “God is great!”
But I am poor and needy;
hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
O Lord, do not delay!
Reflect
Have you ever been in a situation that you needed some help? If we were to be truthful, we have all been in some type of situation where we needed some help. Rather it was financial help, or even worst help out of a dangerous situation. When you were in your time of need who did you call on to help?
Within this Psalm 70 text today we notice that the psalmist is requesting help from the Lord. In fact, the psalmist is not only asking for help but also deliverance. Then, the psalmist ends the request with O Lord, do not delay! Reading this text to the end you can realize that this is an urgent request for the Lord’s help in their time of need.
What can we as the reader learn from this text? That when we are in need we should call unto the Lord for help. The Lord will help us come out and overcome any situation that we may be in and need help. The second thing we learn is that the Lord will not only help us but he will also deliver us. So anything you need deliverance from you can call on the Lord and he will deliver you. All we have to do as believers of the Lord is call on his name and he will arrive.
Pray
Dear God, we thank you for your word today. Help us to call on you in our time of need for help and deliverance. For we know that if we call you, that you will come to our rescue in our time of need. We pray this prayer in the name of the Father, in the name of Son and in the name of the Holy Spirit Amen.
Go with God!
