John 3:31-36 New International Version (NIV)
The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
Reflect
Growing up in a small town in the South, I remember many local “southern sayings.” One that I remember my mother saying quite frequently was “Consider the source.” She’d respond with this after I would tell her some “news” I had heard at school or down at the town square. She taught me to be careful, to beware of uninformed or biased opinions. Consider the source!
In today’s passage, I am once again taken back to this saying from my youth. John the Baptist reminds the people of his day (as well as us today) to consider the Source of Jesus. He came from heaven and is the Son of God.
As we celebrate this Advent season, let us consider THE source of Peace, Love, Hope and Joy we receive through this Holy Child – Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem!
Pray
Father, we do thank You for this day, all before and all yet to come. We thank You for sending Your Son to us. As we adore and worship the Child during this Advent season, we can consider the source and be thankful. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
Go with God!
