Micah 5:2 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah,
who are one of the little clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to rule in Israel,
whose origin is from of old,
from ancient days.
Reflect
Did you know that there were two towns In Israel named Bethlehem? One was in the northern kingdom near Nazareth (now in ruins). The other, where Jesus was born, is in the southern kingdom near Jerusalem. It remains a thriving city today.
We normally think of a king being born in wealth, in castles, palaces, etc. We don’t anticipate a king – much less THE King of Kings – to be born in the most humble of surroundings – a stable in a small village. But yet He did, true to the prophecies of old. Just for us!
We can have our own Bethlehem experience today. Look for the wonder of the baby Jesus in the seasons of your life: the scent of new grass in spring, the sound of breaking waves at the ocean, the beauty of a tree in autumn, the crunch of softly fallen snow…
Experience your own Bethlehem this holy season and then offer thanks to God for His Son, and for this holy village of his birth!
Pray
We do thank you God for providing us the opportunities of experiencing Bethlehem in our lives. The wonder, the amazement, the opportunity of experiencing the life of Jesus. Thank You so much. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Go with God!
