Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.
Read
Isaiah 41:14-20
“The poor and needy search for water,
but there is none;
their tongues are parched with thirst.
But I the LORD will answer them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
I will make rivers flow on barren heights,
and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert into pools of water,
and the parched ground into springs.
I will put in the desert
the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive.
I will set junipers in the wasteland,
the fir and the cypress together,
so that people may see and know,
may consider and understand,
that the hand of the LORD has done this,
that the Holy One of Israel has created it.
Reflect
So I’m always worried. I worry about my kids. Am I doing well enough in my job? Did I pack my kid’s lunchbox? Am I doing the right thing as a parent? The day to day worries that we all carry seem heavy and huge, not to mention can cause wrinkles and ulcers.
Isaiah gives us reasons to not worry. The poor and needy searching for water are provided for by the Lord. He can even turn the desert into springs of cool water where trees can grow nearby and create shade.
If our God can do such wonderful things to the Earth, who are we to worry about small earthy things like lunchboxes and jobs? If he can provide water for the poor and thirsty, he can soothe our worries as well. Trust God to provide for you too. Worries can float away on that same cool, God-given water if given the chance.
Pray
Dear God in Heaven,
Thank for providing cool water to the thirsty. Thank you for giving us trees in the desert. Thank you for giving us minds that care enough to worry. Thank you for your blessings that free those same minds.
In your name we pray,
Amen.
Go with God!
