SHALOM

Peace, what the world longs for, but cannot achieve. The word peace, as translated in this passage, refers to more than the lack of war, according to Strong’s Concordance. It indicates health, prosperity and overall welfare. The Psalmist is praying for someone other than himself and for their welfare; Jerusalem, the City of Peace, the house of the Lord.

Just as the author of this Psalm, interceded for the peace of Jerusalem and the house of the Lord, we should pray for God’s church today. Many congregations suffer with internal power struggles, bringing the world into the church rather than shining the light of the gospel to a fallen creation.

John 16: 33 says, “I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world!” The only way to have peace in every area of life is to be in Christ Jesus. God is the personification of peace. Once we are in Him and He in us, we can have peace with ourselves and each other (John 17:21-23). Pray for the house of the Lord that we might be bound together in unity of the Spirit in a bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3).

Pray

Father God, Lord of our peace, grant us wholeness and perfect those things that concern us. Shine the light of Your word on our path and protect us from the snares of the enemy. May our mouths always be filled with Your praise and our hearts united in Christian love for our brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
