Remember your word to your servant,
in which you have made me hope.

This is my comfort in my distress,
that your promise gives me life.

The arrogant utterly deride me,
but I do not turn away from your law.

When I think of your ordinances from of old,
I take comfort, O Lord.

Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked,
those who forsake your law.

Your statutes have been my songs
wherever I make my home.

I remember your name in the night, O Lord,
and keep your law.

This blessing has fallen to me,
for I have kept your precepts.

Reflect

Psalm 119:49 “Remember your promise to me.” Wow. There’s two words we all would like to ask of anyone, especially the ones we love. Remembrance and promise. “Remember when?”…. I have heard both young and old people lead off with that phrase.

We want to remember the good old days. And when the good old days became today, we found that we could make it on a promise. A promise at the altar; a promise at work; a promise at church; a promise at home. For me, no matter how hard the days have ever gotten I have believed that God would remember to keep His promises.
God does both very well. God always remembers and God always keeps His promises. This comforts us, revives us, instructs us, and orders our lives, even when others try to cut in line. My late son, Jordan, had Asperger’s Syndrome. He found comfort in rules and order and got upset when people broke rules. One day at school, Jordan punched a kid in the arm because he broke the line at the water fountain. He was upset because someone upset his sense of order. But God remembers us, makes promises, and remembers to keep his promises.

Pray

God, I am always forgetting things. And I don’t always keep my promises. Thank you for keeping Your promises of redemption, unconditional love, and direction. Amen.
