Focus
Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.

Mark 12:41-44 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
Reflect
Money, it’s a tricky thing. We all have our struggles with money and one thing has been proven over time. More money doesn’t make things better, easier, or you happier. Clearly there are some benefits, but it is not the solution. Having money is not a bad thing. It is more about your heart, whether you are rich or poor, and what you are going to do with your resources.
This scripture reminds me of one of the churches I work with in Colombia, South America. The Amagá church is about an hour outside of the large city of Medellín. Amaga is a small coal mining community and the people in this town don’t have much. I am always impressed with the Amagá church, because it’s members don’t have much either, but they are constantly trying to provide for the community.
A couple of years ago I got to see this firsthand. The church gathered shoeboxes with toys and supplies and we traveled about an hour (driving and walking when the road stopped) to a small community in the mountain. When they arrived we had an evangelism event with the children and gave them Christmas presents and supplies that they wouldn’t have received otherwise. I think I was blessed more on this day than anyone else!
It isn’t about how much we have, but our heart and how we use it!
Pray
God, help us to be generous. Help us to be generous with our resources, our time, and our love. We know that in your Kingdom we can always give more and do more to be your hands and feet. Teach us and help us. Amen.
