I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to you so that, if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth. Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great:

He was revealed in flesh,
vindicated in spirit,
seen by angels,
proclaimed among Gentiles,
believed in throughout the world,
taken up in glory.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared with a hot iron. They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer.

Reflect

Jesus was the most fully alive person who has ever lived! In the person of Jesus, God entered God’s beloved creation to live fully as a part of it: Jesus, embodied creation, abiding on the earth, living under the sky, enjoying food and drink, loving friends and family, living fully within and among all the joys and the pains of humanity, mind, body and spirit. The Living, breathing, life-giving Presence of God in Humanity—Jesus—has become one of us and has redeemed us with the very life of God. So, let us believe and receive the Life that God gives in Jesus even here and now. And then let us share it with one another.

Pray

Thank you God for the amazing creation by which you bless us in so many ways! We praise you for redeeming us from within in Jesus, Son of God and Son of Humanity. Transform us with your grace new every morning and teach us to live so that your light will shine in us and through us shining forth your way so that whosoever will may come to your goodness and the fullness of life that you give. In the name of Jesus we pray,
