1 Corinthians 2:11-16 (NRSV)
For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God’s except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. And we speak of these things in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual things to those who are spiritual.
Those who are unspiritual[b] do not receive the gifts of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to them, and they are unable to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. Those who are spiritual discern all things, and they are themselves subject to no one else’s scrutiny.
“For who has known the mind of the Lord
so as to instruct him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.
Reflect
We can truly only gain the wisdom and things of God by the Holy Spirit. While we humans may try to discover God, it will never happen without the Holy Spirit. God reveals the things of God of God to believers. The Holy Spirit combines spiritual things with spiritual people.
In our natural state we are fallen from the perfection of God’s creation. A follower of Jesus has the Holy Spirit living in them. When we receive Christ as Savior we have a mind for the things of God. Our bodies become the Holy Temple of God. We have the mind of Christ. The Spirit of God pulls us to know God’s wisdom, to understand the things of God, and to move us towards spiritual things.
Pray
Oh Lord our God, we pray for your wisdom in our lives. We pray that we can seek the spiritual things of life. Amen.
Go with God!
