Focus
Breathe in clear thoughts of peace and reflection as you prepare to hear God speak to you through the scripture and the writer. Put aside all the things the world says you have to accomplish today and use this time to rest in God’s presence.

John 1:14-18 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. (John testified to him and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’”) From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.
Reflect
Words. Have you ever sat down and thought about the words you said? Maybe the words from a presentation you nailed are swirling through your brain as you rejoice in your success. Perhaps the words of hurt you said are sitting in your brain like a brick and you are wishing that you had chosen differently. We use lots of words, both good and bad, every day.
In this scripture, John describes Jesus as the “word”. How odd. We have all been described with many different words, loud, shy, happy, mean, fun, enthusiastic, ect. However, I don’t think any of us have been described as the word? The answer is probably no. Then why does John refer to Jesus as the “word”? I know there are lots of deep theological answers but the best one I can say is because Jesus was the most important word we would ever know.
Today…and every day, Go out and live out the word Jesus as a verb. Feed the hungry, heal the sick, teach good things, flip a table (for the good) if you need to. Let the “Word” live among us through your actions.
Pray
Creator, use my words and actions to do good. To inspire and lead people to you. May each step I take be one that lives out your word and helps people. Give me the guidance to know who to help as I go out.
Amen.
Go with God!
