Psalm 67 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us, Selah
that your way may be known upon earth,
your saving power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth. Selah
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.
The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, has blessed us.
May God continue to bless us;
let all the ends of the earth revere him.
Reflect
Did you know there are more than 190 different countries in this world, with more than 7000 different languages? Some countries are large, and some are small. Some languages are spoken by billions, and some by only a handful. Yet the Psalmist writes, “Let the peoples praise you, O God, let all the peoples praise you.” (Psalm 67: 2) While the Psalmist might have originally been writing for the Israelites, verse 4 indicates to “let the nations be glad and sing for joy.” Not just the Israelites, but all the nations. Today, people throughout the world find many reasons to praise the Lord, including God’s faithful guidance and justice (Psalm 67:4), and His many blessings (Psalm 67: 6-7). Each of us, no matter our nationality, have received God’s grace and mercy, for which we can praise God. Regardless of location and language, our praise of God will demonstrate to others the splendor of Almighty God. So, whether we speak Spanish (“Alabado sea Dios!”), Russian (“Slava bogu!”) or French (“Louez Dieu!”), we can all “Praise the Lord!” and let His glory shine through our song of praise.
Pray
Loving and Righteous God, may your name be praised throughout all the earth! Let all the nations praise your holy name. May our unified voice of praise also unite our hearts and nations in peace, that all may see your glory resounding throughout the earth, regardless of our location or the language we speak. Amen.
Go with God!
