Pay attention to the tension in your body. Let go of it and any expectations to do anything other than God’s will today. Prepare yourself to hear God’s word.

Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

Reflect

Some of you are traveling today. The Thanksgiving holiday is winding down and a sense of the routine returns. For others, your home has been full of family and guests and now it is a time to have some peace and quiet. Wherever you find yourself today, hopefully attending worship, I want to remind you that within the liturgical calendar today is Christ the King Sunday.

The idea that Christ is our king is crucial in our faith. In fact, so crucial that church leaders have one Sunday dedicated to remembering it. John’s account of Jesus’ trial before Pilate is very different from the other gospels, but the outcome is the same: Jesus is king!

I challenge you today to think about Christ as your king. Do you trust all things to Christ or just the things you can’t control or do on your own?

In your travels, in your homes, in your worship services I pray Christ will reign.
