Focus
Prepare yourself to discern what is and what is not of God today. Still yourself so you can hear how God is calling you.

1 Corinthians 11:17-22 (NRSV)
Now in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. For, to begin with, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you; and to some extent I believe it. Indeed, there have to be factions among you, for only so will it become clear who among you are genuine. When you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s supper. For when the time comes to eat, each of you goes ahead with your own supper, and one goes hungry and another becomes drunk. What! Do you not have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you show contempt for the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I commend you? In this matter I do not commend you!
Reflect
Our scripture today seems to say that the Lord’s Supper was celebrated in a different manner than we do today. It seems that this reference may be more akin to a potluck meal than what we think of as the Lord’s Supper.
Our potluck suppers are a time of fellowship. Usually there is more than enough food for everyone, but there may be some items that disappear before everyone can get a taste. Some people will get a serving of Delores’ banana pudding first to be sure they have some. Are we that anxious to get the ‘spiritual’ manna God offers? We should be just as hungry for Christ’s leadership as we are for Nancy’s beautiful baked beans. We must examine our motives behind all things in our lives! Are we genuine? Are we gathering at God’s table to receive ‘spiritual manna’?
So many questions. God has the answers.
Pray
God, help us to read your word, listen for your voice, grow in knowledge and wisdom, talk the talk and walk the walk so that others see you in everything we do. Amen.
Go with God.
