Psalm 85:8-13 (NRSV)
Let me hear what God the LORD will speak,
for he will speak peace to his people,
to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.
Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him,
that his glory may dwell in our land.
Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;
righteousness and peace will kiss each other.
Faithfulness will spring up from the ground,
and righteousness will look down from the sky.
The LORD will give what is good,
and our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness will go before him,
and will make a path for his steps.
Reflect
Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all prayed this psalm every day? What a difference it would make if we all recommitted ourselves each day to listening for God’s word and following his direction.
God has promised us the amazing gifts of love, faithfulness, peace, and righteousness—if only we will turn our lives over to God and be the people God wants us to be. This psalm was written long before Jesus became man, but verse nine promises salvation as well, not just for us personally, but so “that his glory may dwell in our land.” What an amazing God we serve!
Pray
Lord, thank you for your powerful gifts! Help me to reach out and accept love, faithfulness, peace, and righteousness this day. Forgive me when I forsake your way and miss out on the relationship that you are offering. Help me to hear what you will speak. Thank you for always wanting to give me what is good. Amen.
Go with God.
