Hebrews 9:11-15 (NRSV)
But when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation), he entered once for all into the Holy Place, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, with the sprinkling of the ashes of a heifer, sanctifies those who have been defiled so that their flesh is purified, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God!
For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, because a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant.
Reflect
In today’s scripture, we are reminded that Christ’s death on the cross was necessary, as Jesus was the only acceptable sacrifice for the atonement for our sins. The most important decision that we will ever make is accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. There are still those in our homes, communities, churches, and world who do not know Jesus.
My Aunt Kay shared an experience of participating a door-to-door visitation ministry with her church. They visited shut-ins and those who might not know Jesus. Aunt Kay expressed that on a particular day, her visitation group almost marked a gentleman off of their list of people to visit. They had been to his home several times, but he never seemed receptive. I believe they felt they were wasting their time. On this day, however, they did visit him. When they arrived, the gentleman told them that he had been waiting for them and he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Never give up on anyone; keep praying for them. If you don’t know Jesus, ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior today.
Pray
Dear God, thank you for allowing Jesus to make atonement for our sins! We cannot imagine the love that you must have for us. We give you thanks and praise for the unconditional love and mercy that you show. We pray that you put people in our paths so that we might help them come to know you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Go with God.
