Focus
Relax and clear your head. Listen for the voice of God. What is God saying to you today?
Read
Psalm 119:9-16 (NRSV)
How can young people keep their way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you;
do not let me stray from your commandments.
I treasure your word in my heart,
so that I may not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O LORD;
teach me your statutes.
With my lips I declare
all the ordinances of your mouth.
I delight in the way of your decrees
as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts,
and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.
Reflect
Recently I have been reading a lot about spiritual disciplines and how important they are for a disciple’s daily life. During the season of Lent instead of giving up something, I have decided to be more faithful with the practice of spiritual disciplines, especially when it comes to reading the scriptures.
Like so many ministers, I realize that reading the scriptures for me is mostly limited to weekly lectionary readings and other passages as they relate to small group studies. However, God has placed a burden on my heart to set specific times aside and to read the scriptures for my own edification and spiritual growth.
The psalmist certainly believed in reading the scriptures and meditating upon them day and night. I encourage you not to fall into the habit where I found myself, but daily to set aside a time for reading and reflecting upon God’s Word.
Pray
God, may your Word be a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path… (Psalm 119:05) Amen!
Go with God.
