1 Timothy 3:14-16 (NRSV)
I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to you so that, if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth. Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great:
He was revealed in flesh,
vindicated in spirit,
seen by angels,
proclaimed among Gentiles,
believed in throughout the world,
taken up in glory.
Reflect
Sometimes I wonder if we don’t still need instructions on how to behave in the household of God. Maybe my idea of the household of God is different than yours, or even that of most people. I see people in our denomination do wonderful, courageous things for the cause of Christ. I read about laundry ministries, churches where people who are homeless can come in out of the cold, groups that provide food for those people living on the streets, and even something as simple as buying coffee for the person who is selling newspapers at a busy intersection. The people who participate in such acts, to me, are taking care of the “household of God.” What these people pass along might be the most important ingredient of our faith—unconditional, unwavering, unstoppable love for all…as ALL people are members of the household of God.
Pray
Dear God, help us not to leave anyone out, not one, for any reason. Amen.
Go with God.
