Focus
As you quiet yourself for this brief time, be willing to be open to God in whatever way that may take place.
Read
Luke 10:13-16 (NRSV)
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the deeds of power done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But at the judgment it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum,
will you be exalted to heaven?
No, you will be brought down to Hades.
“Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”
Reflect
Several years ago our church began a focus on evangelism. Some of us participated in a program that taught us how to witness to people without beating them over the head with our Bibles. It was very helpful and I learned a lot. I still use the techniques I learned to talk to people about salvation.
When we are witnessing to people, we become agents of Christ. We are his representatives. In verse 16, Jesus tells the disciples that whoever accepts them is accepting him. Conversely, if they reject the message of the disciples, they are also rejecting Jesus. Jesus continued by saying that when they reject him, they are also rejecting God, because God sent Jesus to this earth.
God wants us to spread the good news of Christ and salvation. He told us to go and make disciples of others. When we try to make disciples of others, I hope that we are presenting the good news in a way that is believable and not judgmental. We want to lead others to Jesus Christ, not away from him so that they will accept him and the free gift of salvation.
Pray
Creator God, thank you for the free gift of salvation that you have made available to us through your son, Jesus Christ. We don’t deserve this gift and we can’t earn it, but we want to keep trying to win souls for you. In the name of our Savior. Amen.
Go with God.
